Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum Internaitional Airport (IATA: DWCICAO: OMDW) is the offeecial name o a major internaitional airport in Jebel Ali, 20 nautical mile (37 km; 23 mi) sooth wast[2] o Dubai, Unitit Arab Emirates that opened on 27 Juin 2010.[1] Previous wirkin names hae includit "Jebel Ali Internaitional Airport", "Jebel Ali Airport City", an "Dubai World Central Internaitional Airport". It haes been namit efter the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the umwhile ruler o Dubai. It will be the main pairt o Dubai World Central, a planned residential, commercial an logistics complex scheme. World Central is the warld's first truly integratit logistics platform,[3] wi maist transport modes, logistics an value-addit services, includin manufacturin an assembly, in a single free economic zone.[4] The new airport will cover an area of 55,000 acre (220 km2). The airport is referred tae as "the warld’s first purpose-built aerotropolis",[5] with a projected annual capacity of 160 million passengers and 12 million tonne (12,000,000 long ton; 13,000,000 short ton) of freight.[6]
